Ana: A Story of Recovery and Hope
When we first met Ana, she was 1 year and 8 months old and weighed just 3.22 kg, an extremely low weight for a child her age. Her condition reflected severe malnutrition, as well as the challenges her family faced in accessing appropriate care.
Her mother, Doña Marta, was caring for six other children on her own, making it very difficult to travel to and remain at a nutritional recovery center for several weeks.
In response, Fundación Listo and partner organizations worked closely with the family to find an approach that fit their circumstances: home-based treatment including Nutri Listo and regular follow-up visits. Within a few weeks, Ana's weight increased from 3.22 kg to 4.11 kg, a significant improvement for a child whose life was at risk.
Ana's story reminds us that behind every case of malnutrition is a family in need of solutions that reflect their reality, and that working together can transform lives.

Lucía: Learning to Care with Confidence
Lucía is a mother from a rural community in Chimaltenango. Her baby's weight and height were recorded at every health checkup, but the results were explained only in Spanish, and Lucía speaks Kaqchikel. She had no way of knowing whether her baby was growing as expected, or what steps she could take to support her child's growth.
At Fundación Listo, we worked alongside Lucía to help her follow her baby's growth and make more informed decisions about nutrition. Through guidance in her own language and practical education on complementary feeding, she learned which foods to offer, in what amounts, and how to introduce greater variety into her child's diet.
Today, each weight and height check gives Lucía a practical way to monitor her baby's development and respond when needed. Her baby is now growing within the healthy range. Her story shows that when information is clear and culturally relevant, families are better equipped to take an active role in their children's health and nutrition.
